(non-recurring)Hot Cam.ro is based in Romania but is fully set up in both English and Romanian languages. Whenever the word "Cam" appears in a site title the expectation is that this will be a standard pay-per-minute live webcams show service. That's not what's going on here as this is a Yahoo! Messenger based community and adult interaction type site that's a bit of a catch-all in terms of phone sex, webcam shows, and submitted content. As with most such sites the basic registration is free and then a premium membership is required to actually use the different site features.
Hot Cam.ro is different than other sites that I've reviewed. It doesn't really fit perfectly in any one niche other than an adult community. The Yahoo! Messenger based system has links to all that software's features on each profile page so you can chat, have phone sex, or do webcam chat with a couple clicks. Personally I don't use Yahoo! Messenger but I did download it set used some of the features and it was easy and it seems to interact well with Hot Cam.ro's set-up.
The price here is listed in Euros on the upgrade page however as a U.S. user when I went to the signup page it was $5.00 USD. The amount in Euros is obviously less and I would assume there is geo-targeted processing and the currency would be adjusted base on where you're at. The fact is there is just the one premium rate which is pretty cheap.
The Yahoo! Messenger features are clearly listed on each profile page (online status, add to contact list, send message, call person, etc).
There is a search tool with numerous filter options for locating other members with desired characteristics.
While the functionality seemed to work fine for the Y! Messenger and Hot Cam's profile pages this is a weird system for a paysite to employ. You have to have that software to get any use from the site. The billing is telephone based which is another strange thing that makes me very wary. Nearly all paysites take some sort of credit card and phone billing is a last option usually. The fact that Hot Cam has that as the only billing system is a real negative and something that is likely to turn off most surfers.
There just wasn't much depth to most of the profile pages I visited. There are small thumbnail pictures and most don't have galleries available. The personal details are basic and most are empty all of which really detracts from the value of the community. Depending on what search criteria you enter you're likely to find most members are offline. Specifically the "Webcam Girl" page has a list of people and when I looked they were all offline.
There were two main things that drove me crazy on the search. First, entering any sort of detailed filters will lead to no results. Second, the search fields all reset after each search. To repeat or adjust you must start from scratch with all the fields. I also could not locate any way to just search for people who are online. Eventually I figured out that it is possible to sort things by activity date which brings the online ones to the top. This is an extra step though and not part of the initial search.
There is a forum page on as one of the sections on the navigation header. Nearly all the topics have no threads, posts, or activity. The few items that were there came from four or five months before this review. Individual profile pages have "My Blog" links but none of them opened for me so I'm unsure if users use those or not.
The "Porn Movies" section has in-browser streams only and they are 3rd party videos and often just preview trailers.
When I clicked on the Model Signup page to see what that was like the page came up 404 Error.
Online communities, personals, webcam, and chat services always have a level of subjectivity in that experiences really vary based on who you're interacting with and how that activity goes. While the monthly fee is inexpensive for Hot Cam.ro and I found the messenger features to be pretty straightforward there are a number of things that put me off about the site. The difficult navigation/search really makes it tough to tell what they in fact have to offer in terms of members and content. There doesn%u2019t seem to be much in the way of actual galleries or videos posted by members and the forum inactivity stands out. The fact that they only do telephone billing probably hampers the ability to get and keep members.
